A thought-provoking seminar for the parents was conducted on 12th July 2025 at Jesus and Mary Convent School led by Sir Denny Joseph, an esteemed veteran of the Indian Navy and a seasoned corporate trainer.
The seminar aimed at strengthening the relationship between parents and their children in today’s fast-paced and digital world.
The session focused on understanding the emotional and psychological needs of children, how to protect them from the potential harms of the internet, and how to support them in setting and achieving personal goals.
One of the key highlights of the seminar was the emphasis on avoiding comparison among children. Parents were urged not to compare their children with others, as it can foster negativity and insecurity. Each child is unique, with individual talents that must be recognized and appreciated. The seminar encouraged parents to support their children's choices instead of imposing their own unfulfilled desires or expectations.
Denny Sir stressed the importance of empowering children by respecting their ambitions and removing obstacles that hinder their growth. The session also underlined the need for parents to engage in open, friendly conversations with their children to better understand their thoughts and emotions.
A special focus was placed on the physical and mental development of children, particularly during adolescence. Parents were encouraged to reassure their children, listen to their words carefully, and guide them in distinguishing right from wrong. Boosting children's confidence through positive reinforcement—such as rewarding good performance—was also discussed as an effective motivational tool.
In addition to parenting techniques, the seminar introduced the concept of the "5 Ws"—When, Where, Why, What, and Who—as a critical thinking framework that should be taught to students and applied in daily life situations.
The seminar concluded with an interactive Q&A session, leaving the attendees more informed and empowered to nurture their children's growth with compassion, understanding, and wisdom.
